This isn't Bay is it?

Someone has given me some cuttings as Bay. (pics are the discarded bits) I'm a fairly experienced gardener and I don't think it is. The leave are too shiny and not pointed enough. They smell lemony when broken. Any ideas?

@Somanysocks Yup - looks like it. It cost me a box of maltesers as well, which I had already handed over so I couldn't call her a liar and ask for them back! Lesson: don't ask for free stuff on Facebook.

Well I thought I was swapping a box of Maltesers for a the potential of a new bay tree. Trouble is they were in her possession before she showed me the plant and I was too polite to say "erm....hang on a minute..." I will attempt to propagate a choisya and look elsewhere for the bay.

Yes, Choisya. The leaves are in groups of three, not a common arrangement.

It would be kind to let her know, incase she decides to cook with it.

Last year someone local was offering free chilli plants , I knew as soon as I saw them they were just weeds and sure enough nothing was produced apart from bigger weeds - he didn’t get Maltesers fortunately
