Is my Eucalyptus tree diseased/dying?

Hoping someone can help me work out what’s going on with the eucalyptus tree in my garden. I’ve added some photos and for context, the tree is 20+ years old, planted by the previous owners of the house.

We had the garden landscaped 12 months ago including artificial grass so there has been a change to the conditions for the tree fairly recently but we had it cut back just before we had the garden done last year (as we do annually) and it grew ok/normally the past year.

we had it cut back again a month or so ago and when all of the outer foliage had been removed the tree looked fairly dead. Then I noticed the marks on the trunk of the tree too. A quick google suggests this might be some sort of fungus perhaps but I am clueless!

thanks in advance for any advice! Can we save this tree or is it a lost cause?!

My eucalyptus died this year, lovely and nice looking for the last 25 years, this year dry crispy leaves and no new growth at all, not sure if the bitter winter finished it off as lost a few other established plants as well

Sorry it looks like mine did

Ours died this year too although it has only been in 2 years

Does your artificial grass allow water to permeate through it? Eucalyps are pretty drought tolerant (they 'drink' a lot of water when they can), but with last years long dry summer, and a dry(ish) winter, I'm wondering if it's just not managed to get enough water, which has weakened it and allowed disease in.
I'm afraid it's looking pretty dead.

There's three really massive eucalyptus trees in gardens near here, all many decades old and they have all died. I suspect it may have been the extremely cold spell we had in December rather than last summer's heat. They aren't really hardy enough to cope with that.

One of ours got honey fungus and died.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 14/06/2023 12:32

Does anyone

Please ignore that spurious last post.

Did the level around the tree base change? I'm thinking maybe that and the plastic grass could be causing the issues.

Not sure how to resolve. It may be on its way out unfortunately.

@PrimalLass I think our eucalyptus tree has honey fungus. How were you able to tell with yours?
