Or - does it need feeding perhaps?

I'm not an expert on jasmine, but I'd water and feed. I'd make a small hole in the soil about 30cm away and use a cut off plastic bottle or plant pot to direct the water down to the roots. Unless you've had rain recently the soil is probably bone dry.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 09/06/2023 18:55

I think it looks fine - the leaves and flowers do hang down, I find. Feel the soil before watering, they are tough and don't need a lot of water or food. They have a tendency to sit and sulk for 18 months then suddenly get their feet down and get going. Mine looked like yours to start with but now has to be chopped back every year (after flowering).

Yours looks fine, I’m sure it would benefit from a water and a feed, but most plants would right now. I’ve lost one over the winter and it looks nothing like yours, and another one looks poorly. I am going to cut it down to the ground and see how it does after that.

SarahAndQuack · 09/06/2023 20:34

It looks fine. The leaves turn pale green or even red when it is too dry. Yours looks beautifully healthy.

Is that jasmine or is it “star jasmine”, which isn’t a jasmine, just looks vaguely like it?

How do the flower stems feel? If they’re stiff and downward turning they’re OK, if they’re floppy, they need water.

if aplant is in need of water, don’t feedit until it’s recovered from the dehydration

It's surely trachelospermum jasminoides, from the picture?

Trach. Jas. does sometimes have floppy, downturned flower stems, but this is not a sign it's dry - that's just how it grows.

They're downturned, yes, but not floppy. If you place a finger underneath an lift, they lift keeping the shape of the flower group, they don't flop limply against your finger. So that's why I suggested checking that they were downturned because they grow that way, and not downturned and floppy rather than turgid, which would indicate water not getting up to the leaves.

Oh, I follow you. Yes, absolutely.

This is interesting to know. I planted some late not last year the year before and they are still pathetically small. They are still alive and have grown bigger but make @Blackbirdtweeter s look like an Amazonian rainforest in comparison to their weediness.

You sound like an expert @LadyGardenersQuestionTime - when/what should you feed them with.

Blackbirdtweeter · 17/06/2023 10:43

It looks like things are going bad to worse? We have watered it well and given it a feed. Lots of brown dead flowers though. 😔

in bright sunshine and heat they sometimes get a bit droopy. once it's less sunny they should perk up again.

Sandybabey · 17/06/2023 12:41

Does anyone know, if its okay to move a mature star jasmine, that was planted in the wrong place, to a sunnier spot. I moved mine and all the leaves fell off and now it's just bare wood.
It's over ten years old and about five foot high.

karolinkas · 15/06/2025 09:54

@Blackbirdtweeter I know this thread is a bit old, but I'm really curious to hear if your jasmine has recovered? Do you remember what what causing it to look like you showed in your pictures?

Mine is looking exactly the same right now, and I am wondering what I am doing wrong...
