I see it quite a lot in front gardens, it looks nice and takes up a good bit of space!

Gum rockrose I think

Catname · 07/06/2023 13:34

Depending on the size of the flower, it could be a Cistus.

Knittedfairies · 07/06/2023 13:55

Another vote for cistus.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 07/06/2023 14:00

Cost us. Needs good drainage and plenty of sunshine. I am very fond of it.

userxx · 07/06/2023 14:06

Oooo I picked up a cistus from Aldi, must get it in the ground.

Does anyone know how big they get?

MmePoppySeedDefage · 07/06/2023 14:07

It depends on the variety: they can grow to over a metre high, and quite wide.

Lizsmum · 07/06/2023 14:14

Oh really, ok, I'll need to rethink my chosen spot. Thanks for the info.

Yes it’s Cistus. We’ve just put one in knowing we will probably have to move it at some stage. The flowers are pretty but only last a day.

Yes, mine had a beautiful pink flower but the next day it was gone! What's that about.

EyelessArseFace · 07/06/2023 18:23

Mine used to get a fresh set of big pink flowers every day @userxx

I'm guessing that as soon as the flower has been pollinated, the plant doesn't need the petals to attract insects any more, so they fall off.

(I say used to - unfortunately it died a few years back)

NewspaperTaxis · 07/06/2023 20:30

Thanks everyone! That said, I didn't realise the flowers don't last long.

It should be a constant succession of flowers though OP once the plant gets going. Each one last a day but others bloom the next, and so on.

minipie · 11/06/2023 10:24

Cistus aka rock rose. We have a bright pink one. They don’t love being pruned (although mine was ok with an early spring pruning) so be cautious and yes do pick your spot carefully.

Quite tempted to get a white one now.
