Weed or not?

Can’t work out if this is something I planted or not as I tend to shove leftover seeds/bulbs etc in these pots.

There are pinks next to them, but the thing in question is a bit taller and with a reddish stem.

I’ll try and add pics.

Won’t let me add more than one image at time.

Looks like rosebay willowherb- a wildflower rather than a weed! It grows tall with pink flowers and is pretty, but will self seed everywhere so deadhead if you decide to keep it

Greentree1 · 02/06/2023 11:28

Wait and let it flower, if you still can't tell what it is post another picture.

Ah we have some of that elsewhere in the garden, where I haven’t got rid of it yet. It seems sturdier than that. But similar. Maybe it’s a different type. Thanks.

It’s going to take over the pots though. Maybe I’ll get rid of half of it.

Might be campanula/ bellflower?

CindersAgain · 16/07/2023 19:37

I have an update!

I hedged my bets and got rid of half of it. It’s flowering now and looks to be a wildflower -

It looks better than nothing, so I’ll leave it there for now!

I got the Picture This app - it's a plant identifying app. Just brilliant.

Thelnebriati · 16/07/2023 21:58

That looks like Michaelmas Daisy (Aster) https://www.gardenersworld.com/plants/12-of-the-best-michaelmas-daisies-to-grow/

Ukholidaysaregreat · 16/07/2023 22:01

I agree. Michaelmas Daisy. Very nice.

Redbone · 16/07/2023 22:03

Yes it’s an aster aka Michaelmas daisy, flowering rather early!

ErrolTheDragon · 16/07/2023 23:20

I thought the first photo looked a lot like a Michaelmas Daisy I bought recently. I think there is a wild type Aster x salignus so if you didn't deliberately plant an aster that's probably it.

Yeah, I think that’s what the link is. It’s a big scabby looking, but will do for now! They need redoing properly at some point, both the pots.

Bit scabby!
