Astroturf v Grass

Hello!

Myself and DH are discussing the garden, one of us wants to replace the grass with AstroTurf and the other doesn't.

Can anyone tell me the pros/cons and what you prefer so we can try and come to a final decision?

Thank you!

Woohoo!

I'd never heard of gardens being "unusable" until they started trying to flog plastic grass to domestic homes.

I'd never heard of gardens being "unusable" until they started trying to flog plastic grass to domestic homes.
Prior to flogging plastic tat people accepted that the ground gets wet when it rains.
The idea of 365 days a year of dry garden as a genius way of convincing people they have a problem in need of fixing.

I don't think some people realise that the more people tarmac over ever inch of mud, pour concrete over residential gardens, and wrap their garden in plastic, the more they're causing problems elsewhere.

Not RTFT so probs been mentioned already but real grass and a robot mower is what you need! Fake grass is awful on so many levels

This. I've never been a fan of fake grass but from some of the ridiculous hysteria on recent threads about astroturf I'm starting to think it's not anywhere near as bad as people make out and people are just looking for reasons to hate on it.

It's not really hysteria though is it. It doesn't take much to see how fake, plastic grass can be awful for the environment. It's already been explained well how it raises temperatures and reduces insects which are vital to bio diversity.

I hate cutting the grass and so we have a gardener who comes and does it and does a far better job anyway. Save the ridiculous amount you'd spend on the awful plastic grass and use the money to get a gardener to keep it ticking over.
