Does Lidl bark smell particularly bad or do they all?

Applied bark for the first time to some border plants and the smell is bothering me as I sit in the garden.

Is the smell generally offensive?

bark always smells musty fresh from a plastic bag.
will be better after a couple of days.

As above, it smells strong, fresh out of the bag. The smell doesn't stay like that though.
