Fastest growing climber?

As above really: what's the fastest growing, low maintenance flowering climber for a trellis? I'd rather not have clematis as I've got a few already.

Thanks!

Jasmine. Or Trachelospermum. (Spelling is wrong there). Or a honeysuckle?

callmesophia · 28/05/2023 11:35

Ohhhh jasmine, I'd forgot that existed. And I love it!

I bloody love jasmine, it takes me to the Med every year, but check out the trachelo...whatever. It has bigger leaves and is more evergreen than Jasmine officinalis. My spelling is all wrong on this but hope you get my drift! I've got 5 jasmines in a tiny garden and it's delicious.

Excellent! Heading to the garden centre today and I think I'm sold on jasmine/trechalospermemenemaa 😆👍🏼

Solan is great. White or pale purple.

Honeysuckle?

BaronessBomburst · 07/06/2023 23:14

I recently planted a Dutch woodbine. I love to check it everyday as I can see how much it's grown.

I had one of these, VERY fast growing! Doesn't need much Mai or care, just cut it back as far as you want, it'll grow back incredibly fast.

That is Russian vine and is nicknamed Mile a Minute for a reason. It is also closely related to Japanese knotweed.

Some people are campaigning for the sale of it to be banned in the UK.

What did you get in the end OP? Ime trachelospermum is not fast growing, jasmine and honeysuckle are, but only once they get established which can take a few years (in my garden at least). Hopefully garden centre plants will be quicker than layered cuttings, which is what I started mine from.

APurpleSquirrel · 08/06/2023 16:33

Love honeysuckles - great climber, lots of flowers, smells amazing, over by bees & insects, & has berries for birds in autumn/winter. Get an evergreen variety & it'll stay covered all year.

Ffaldiri · 08/06/2023 16:35

Passion Flower. I swear you can watch it grow in front of you.

StrongandNorthern · 08/06/2023 23:16

Avoid Russian Vine (Mile a Minute). It spreads like wildfire and finishes up causing problems.

Ah thanks all! I went for a jasmine in the end. But I am after a few more so will definitely look into all these wonderful suggestions 🙂
