Have I killed my wormery?!

Added some of the pictured compost to my wormery as I'd put too much liquid on the coir brick. Anyway, potting up some other plants and I find bluey green balls in the compost (which I have mixed in with the wormery) which have liquid inside. I've killed the worms haven't I?!

Can you fish them out?

sunlovingcriminal · 25/05/2023 15:40

Have a dig and see! They are quite hardy!!!

So annoyed with myself! New to gardening and the previous three bags of compost (all different brands) I've bought none of them have those blue green things in.

I've only mixed the compost in this morning so I don't think that'll do anything to the worms yet.

The little balls are likely to be fertilizer. I doubt they kill worms, since my pots all have worms in them when I take the bulbs out at the end of the season, and they all have compost that contains the fertilizer balls.

Thank you for this!! Fingers crossed they will be OK. I wasn't sure if it was some sort of pesticide that would end up killing the worms.

Not that it will help you with your ball dilemma, but adding shredded paper helps to absorb extra liquid.

Is this reminding anyone else of James and the Giant Peach? Watch out for massive worms, OP. Grin
