Pergola

Not sure if this belongs in garden or property!
I'm having some landsxaping done and included a pergola. It's to make a seating area in the corner of the garden that gets the sun all day and into the evening.
It's next to a beech hedge which I love but it's not very dense for privacy and of course the leaves don't come out until late April / early May.
My idea was to have screening down the side of the pergola next to the hedge, some kind of trellis perhaps.
Now I'm thinking of a curtain for more flexibility? I would need a pole of some sort across the top and don't know how I would fix curtains.
Any thoughts?

A trellis with a fine mesh + the beech hedge should give you decent privacy unless the neighbours are directly behind the hedge trying to peer in. why not wait to summer and see how it feels?

I wouldn't do a curtain - it will look a mess very fast.

Thanks @parietal , Trellis was my first idea. It's a corner plot so the hedge is next to the road. It's only a cul de sac of five houses on the edge of a village so passers-by are rare.

You can get retractable side awnings for this very purpose.

That looks interesting - free standing?
It's going to be a traditional wooden job, built by local company.
