Help me save this lawn!

Moved into our new house last winter. Now that the nice weather has rolled around, the front lawn seems to be dying in front of my eyes 😬

It is really thick and springy like it’s just a mat of moss! Next doors is nice and green but ours looks awful 😳 They moved into their property next door after us and seem to just cut their grass every few weeks. I’ve never seen them do anything else in terms of maintaining it, so why the massive difference 🙈

What do I need to salvage the lawn? Please help a very inexperienced gardener before I become the talk of the street 😅

try a bit of baby bio or miracle growth, my hubby darren uses it and it sure does work haha!

What is your soil like - is it clay, for instance? Is your lawn very solid and compacted?

It might need aeriating. You don't need a special tool for this - though it's quicker! Just poke a lot of holes in it with a garden fork.

I'd say you've cut it too short.
Will your lawnmower adjust the height it cuts at? If so, increase the length of the grass left after cutting.

It also looks like you've got some moss - a good rake out, stab it with a fork, and sprinkle on some weed and feed just before its next due to rain would be the first things I'd do.

Perhaps the neighbours have chucked some lawn feed on theirs.
That makes lawns green.
Is yours grass! Does it actually have grass leaves or is it just moss- I can’t tell from the pics.
If it is just moss you could chuck some grass seed down.
As you say it’s a new property could the builders have removed the top soil?
