What's happened to my Pear?!

This has happened. Please see the picture. All of sudden to my pleached pear. It doesn't seem to be advancing.

What should I do ?

Whatever it is, cut it off and dispose of it..

That branch is stone dead. Follow it back until you find a bud on healthy bark, and cut it there. Smear some vaseline on the cut end. Check the rest of the tree for pests, and look for anything that looks like pear rust. You can google images of that.

Throw all dead and diseased material in the bin - don't compost it!!

@sunglassesonthetable Trees do just decide to shed branches sometimes. It may be to do with the extreme heat last summer combined with the very cold spells over winter that stressed it too far, and that caused the branch to die back.

It's wait and see now.
