Deterring badgers from digging up lawn

Has anyone tried anything that actually worked?

We can't fence the area fully. Google suggests lion dung or male urine.

The previous owners burried children wire underneath the lawn and that seems to stop most things digging through. You would need to take the whole lawn up to do it. I don't think though that you can disturb an active badger set.
