Irises

Can someone give me advice on why my iris bulbs are not flowering. They are planted in full sun and well spaced. They are bulbs and not rhizomes. What am I doing wrong. They grow plenty of green shoots then leaves, but just won't flower.

Any advice appreciated.

In the ground or pots?

Iris are notoriously prone to blindness. Having said that, the flower buds appear with amazing suddenness, one minute you are staring at some leaves and the next minute there’s a huge bud.

you could try giving them a feed with Phosrogen to spur them in.

They need to bake the preceding summer or else won’t flower. Make sure they are planted partially exposed so they get some sun, and when you mulch make sure you don’t bury them.

They are in pots, in full sun. They grow plenty of green leaves but fail to flower.

I grow (bearded) irises in pots. I have had years without blooms and have discovered I need to divide frequently, and keep the pots in full sun continuously i.e. not move after flowering.

I realise mine are rhizomes rather than bulbs so apologise if this isn't helpful

Thats what I was doing with mine, shifting the pot into a different area of the garden when I got no flowers. They I think are supposed to sit in full sun so that the leaves get as much sun for the following year.
