Came across this very odd, flat daisy in the park. What’s happened to it?

It’s called fasciation. Lots of things can cause it, viruses, bacteria, hormone imbalances, genetic mutations, insect damage, etc

Linaria purpurea is very keen on doing it. Thistles quite often. I think I've seen a fasciated foxglove too.

I've seen plants do that as a reaction to a dose of weedkiller that wasn't strong enough to kill them off.

I'm sure I've seen it in some trees, perhaps willow. Very bizarre looking. I've heard it can be caused by weedkiller.
