Flowering shrub

So a while back I was browsing on the gardening section and came across a thread where someone had recommended a flowering shrub. I looked this up and thought this is exactly what I would like, but I cannot remember the name of the plant and I stupidly didn't watch the thread so cannot find it now!

So please recommend me a lovely flowering shrub for a west facing bed.

How big do you want it?
Evergreen or deciduous?
Preferred colour?
Time of year you want it to flower?
Do you want scent?
What type of soil do you have (if you know)?

Clay alkaline soil.
I don't mind either every green or deciduous.
Flowering time, probably summer or autumn, or nice autumn foliage.
I do like plants with lovely foliage.
Open to different colours, except probably not pink or purple have a could of pink clematis, blossom tree with pink blossom and lovely purple salvias and alliums so something different

How about an oak leaves Hydrangea? Lovely white summer flowers around July when not much else is flowering and then stunning purple autumn foliage.

I have a choisya that thrives in my west-facing garden. It's just beginning to come into bloom right now. When all the flowers open it will be covered in small, white, 5-petalled stars and smell wonderful. The fragrance is sweetly citrusy. If I give it a buzz-cut with the hedge trimmer straight after flowering, it flowers a second time.

My favourite flowering shrub is my Calycanthus ‘Hartledge Wine’. I’ve got it trained against a west facing wall and it’s spectacular when it flowers.
