Hive mind help - what to grow here?

We have this horrible dead patch of ground underneath a tree. We want to beautify it because its right next to where we sit, and it’s harshing my mellow at the moment.

The problem is, it’s totally shaded, and we have the tree roots to contend with. Is there anything that would grow here to make it look less depressing??

How about a rockery with some shade loving alpines. Not overly green fingered so can't give any names I'm afraid.

All the woodland plants! Snowdrops, bluebells, lily of the valley, ferns, hostas, primroses, some hardy geraniums, anemones, fritillaries, cyclamen…

Yes, think woodland floor - ferns, hellebores, wild garlic, bluebells, snowdrops, daffodils, Pulmonaria, vinca minor, celandine etc.

Brilliant! Thank you!

Lamium, dead nettle is a low spreading plant that doesn’t mind shade, particularly the silver leaved variety

Thanks @Beebumble2 I’ll check it out. I appreciate all the ideas.

Japanese anemones can live anywhere - I swear they would survive the apocalypse.

Put some shade loving bulbs in, and wood chip the area.
