Due to ash die back I have had to fell several mature ash trees on a very steep slope from my cottage down to the sea.
The slope is so steep that I cannot safely dig holes there to plant. Well I could buy a harness and rope myself to the remaining stumps whilst I swing my mattock to dig a planting hole…. But I’m not keen on that idea.
I could wait for nature to take it’s course. Trees self seeded themselves there in previous generations so they probably will again. But that way I’ll probably get more hawthorns and they don’t grow tall enough.
I could scramble about on the slope dropping acorns.
Birches grow tall quickly, how do I get hold of their seeds?
Anything else tall with seeds easy to put in a pocket and then sprinkle about? That will be happy on an coastal slope.
