Cats pooing in my pots

I love my cats but they are convinced that our pots are special litter trays for them. How to I stop them pooing and digging up my pots when I replant them with new bedding plants ?

Thanks

I cover the compost with a layer of gravel; in my flower beds I put down rows of next door neighbour's very spiky berberis.

Lots of sticks pointing vertically upwards

Put sticks in the pots. Spray the cats with the hose if catch them. You can also buy granules that repell cats to some extent, I think they don't like the smell. Failing that, plant spikey plants.

As well as twiggy cuttings I cover the surface with stones and seashells

I've heard Holly leaves may deter them, don't have to be green, just spikey.
