Can I put a mini rose outside

Someone gave me a mini rose as a gift. I’ve kept it inside so far but I generally like low maintenance (ie water once in a blue moon) house plants. I’ve tried to keep on top of watering it weekly but the soil is still drying out super quick, the petals have gone and the leaves are starting to brown. I think I’ll be better off putting it outside where it will atleast get some rain. I’m generally better at watering garden plants in summer too.

Can I just put it outside straight away or do I need to harden it off? Should I pot it or put it in the ground? Any other tips. I don’t know the variety beyond it’s mini and cream flowers.

Thanks

It might depend on whereabouts you are in the UK. I'd put it somewhere sheltered andf hope there won't be any frost.

I got a potted rose for Christmas year before last, I planted it out in April last year. It had lived on the kitchen window sill until it was planted. It did really well, bloomed nicely, and is now sprouting again. I am in the South West UK so fairly warm, and the variety was 'yellow potted rose' from Waitrose! really informative labeling there.

the soil is still drying out super quick
I think that's due to the weird soil they use. Pot it up with normal potting mix and give it some rose food.
Plant it out when it's feeling better, not now when it is feeling stressed.

Thanks all

Good idea to repot it first and wait, as the weather here is still questionable.

I’ve put 3 miniature roses in the garden, sunny place well composted well drained soil. They did ok last summer, 2 of them look like sticks now but the latest of the three is sprouting leaves now.

Mine seems to be dead, shoved it outside and it's looking healthy and grown loads now Shock

My mum did! She planted it in a south-facing spot, sheltered by a wall. It's now massive, with an incredible cascade of tiny roses all summer 🤗

Mine is east facing in a planter and it's pretty windy and exposed!

This was about a foot high in the pot. Must be about 8ft now.

I planted one 27 years ago and it still needs fierce pruning to control it. It’s seen out some harsh frosts.

Of two others we potted outdoors one is doing fine and the other died.

Definitely worth doing.
