How to protect plants from birds

Hi all.

Hoping for your advice. I want to protect my plants (peas and broccoli) from the wood pidgins that are stripping the leaves.

Put up some netting but a little bird got caught so I've taken it down now.

What does everyone use that's safe and won't risk birds getting stuck?

For broccoli, you'll want a fine net or mesh. I think ideally it would be a non-stretchy one that is secured fully taut to avoid entangling birds, etc.

How big are the peas? You may just require temporary protection for them while they bulk up. In which case, you can use soft drinks bottles as individual cloches.

If you go on a website such as Harrod Horticultural you will find a number of different net sizes. Peg the net down really well at the sides so that birds can't get underneath.

For keeping insects off we use enviromesh.

I'm a long suffering allotmenteer!
