What would you do with this corner?

We’ve got rid of the trampoline that neatly tucked in between the back hedge and a small tree - and are now not sure what to do with the space. I’d wondered about a shaded seating area, as most of the rest of the garden is in full sun and can get too hot, but it’s not very appealing as it is! Open to other ideas too. It’s clay soil and we have an ongoing battle with brambles here.

What would you do with this corner?

I would fill it with acers and put a nice bench there but I love acers.

Nature pond?

Cut back your hedges and rake out the weeds underneath. Brambles aren't that difficult to eradicate. Just dig them up, making sure their runners are taken out. (Keep doing this and they'll not come back.)

You can plant a nice climber or two against your fence, or if you want site your shaded seating area against the fence. Create a patio area with some nice stone paving, and plant alongside it with some scented shrubs.

A little arbor or pergola for sitting and reading?

Add an evergreen for winter interest.

Thanks all. Will persevere with the bramble clearing!

I’d wondered about an arbor or pergola. And I love acers too Geneticsbunny!

Yes I would clear it back as much as possible then add a little covered bench and some nice planting. Acers are indeed lovely and you could add hydrangeas or other more shade tolerant planting.... you've got lots of options!
