Houseplant Query

My dd has had a gerbera in her bedroom window since the Spring, and amazingly it's survived (we're normally houseplant killers) and has been constantly in flower ever since. But since the weather started getting colder, it's looking a bit sorry for itself, and I don't know how to look after it. What should I do with it over the winter? Will it come back in the Spring, or do they only last for one season?

Gerberas are not the easiest of houseplants to look after well and generally they fit into the same category as pot chrysanthemums i.e. they are like a living bunch of cut flowers.

Here are some hints:
Temp 50-70F
Light Brightly lit spot with some sun.
Water Keep compost moist at all times when in flower but you can keep them a little drier during the Winter.
Humidity Place the pot on a saucer of moist gravel in order to provide humidity.

Considering it's been looked after by me and my 3.5 year old (plant killers both), it's doing OK then! It's been glorious all year, it's only now that it's started to flag. I presume from your answer that it will stop flowering soon, and I just need to keep it in the same place but water it less until the Spring. Thanks, TFDB (come on, own up - who are you?)
