Dogwood advice

I've bought a Cornus Blue Cloud as an impulse purchase, and not sure I've done the right thing, I got overexcited.

My concern is how big it will grow in a small garden. I know you can prune them back hard, but isn't that to make even more stems, rather than to restrict the size?

Mine is a few years old , not sure what Dogwood it is but I missed the boat pruning it this year . I love the red stems in winter and it was a shame to cut it , especially since my NDN fence is low .
Then it got leaves and its going all-out-leafy so I don;t want to reduce it now !
Must be 7 feet tall but not taking over thankfully .

Thanks. Do you think it would be possible to keep it narrow-ish (I'm thinking 1m)? I'm OK with height, I don't think they grow to more than about 2.5 anyway.

I've got a few dogwoods, some are more vigorous than others. The one with really red stems (not sure what variety) stays smaller than I want, it's got a lot of competition from a big lime green one - the others do need quite a lot of pruning to keep vaguely in check. It's probably possible to keep one within bounds - take out unwanted runners asap, don't just prune once a year.
