What seeds to plant for pollinators?

I'm thinking of planting seeds in troughs this year instead of buying plants. My aim is to attract pollinators, especially hummingbird hawkmoths. I've got a pack of nasturtiums which I know are pretty foolproof, but what other seeds would be good? I don't want to faff about with starting indoors etc. I've looked at wildflower mixes online but I don't know if they're more for sowing in lawns and might look odd in troughs with them all being different heights.

Recommendations please! x

Instead of wildflower mixes, you can look for seed mixes for butterflies and bees or other individual packets of the same seeds: www.suttons.co.uk/flower-seeds/seeds-for-bees-butterflies

You could also get a dwarf buddleia which could grow in a pot as these attract butterflies too.

Thank you @20DigitCombination, I have ordered a three pack of bee, butterfly and moth seeds. Fingers crossed I see a hummingbird hawk moth at last!

Good idea re the dwarf buddleia too, I will look for one when I go to the garden centre. Flowers

Hummingbird hawkmoths I’ve seen on the lavender in my garden.

Elephant hawk moths, which are amazingly beautiful in shades of muted green and pink, have caterpillars which feed on rose bay willowherb and on Fuchsia.

@MereDintofPandiculation that's good to know about lavender, I will get one in a pot. Lucky you seeing a hummingbird hawkmoth!

I would love to see an elephant hawk moth too, they're beautiful. I usually have fuschias in my hanging baskets so hopefully might attract some!

There's often a hummingbird hawkmoth on my buddliea on a warm summer evening.

It is our honeysuckle that get the most hummingbird hawk moths.

Hummingbird moths are amazing

They love my white centranthus, they like long flowers that they can stick their long probe into to reach the nectar.

Thank you all, I've added all of these to my garden centre shopping list! Flowers
