gardener ettiquette?!

ok i have a gardener coming for the first time next week and need to know what is acceptable to ask him to do? he knows he will be doing the lawns and hedges and a bit of planting but what else is deemed acceptable?

i have a couple of old grow bags that just need moving to the top of the garden to go in compost bin but are too heavy for me, is that something i could ask him to do?

If he is an experienced gardener, you may want to just leave him to it - we did. Anything specific we wanted, I used to ask, but otherwise he used to do what needed doing.

is he a professional gardner or more like a handy man? my gran has had several gardners. the more qualified she would expect to only do gardening, but do it well. the one she has now is more handy man, does the lawn, weeds, will plant things she gets for him where she tells him to put them etc. then if she has no gardening to be done he will paint exterior, wash car, sort shed out, even change her lightbulbs.

Ask him what his qualifications are or how long has he been time served.
Have a list of all the jobs that you want done and discuss these with him - if he is good, he will be able to see some things that you may have overlooked.
Heavy lifting is part of our job!
Ask also whether it is an hourly rate or otherwise.
Most importantly, ask how many sugars he takes in his tea!
