Low germination rate

Is anyone else also having low germination rate? I blaming the appalling lack of sunshine we’ve had in the South this March. From whole trays I’ve only had one or two seeds germinate - across a variety of flowers and vegetables, and even for types I’ve had great success with before. And, they are all in a greenhouse!

Feeling disheartened… and laying in bed listening to the rain and wind absolutely lash out once again!

Only aubergines which I've had no luck with in the past two years. But I germinate almost everything inside and then put it in the greenhouse when it's up.

There has been plenty of sun in the south - just also a lot of rain lately too

I used to have this problem, even sowing inside didn't really help (I suspect because the house gets cold at night) so splashed out on a heated propagator, problem solved.

@deplorabelle I’m envious! It’s felt almost permanently gloomy in Hampshire.

@Ifailed gtrat tip, I might invest for next year.

I have a heated propagator and a heat mat.

Sometimes it can be the compost if it is across a wide range of seeds that aren't germinating. Or old seeds.

Try putting some sees into ziplock bags on damp kitchen roll to see if it is the seeds themselves. Put them somewhere warm and check each day.

I was having the same problem op. I bought some windowsill propagators, to start them off, and that seems to have helped.

Just got one - life changing, especially this year!
