Chocolate Cosmos

I planted Chocolate Cosmos last year from plug plants.

They were a roaring success and I loved them.

I thickly mulched over the plants over winter but no idea if they've survived.

But should I be treating them as annuals anyway?

Wisdom appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Cosmos grow brilliantly from seed, by the way. Saves loads of money.

Fab! Must order some.

You might be lucky and they will have self sown, you will know in April/May if little seedlings pop up.

Usually chocolate cosmos are different to ordinary cosmos and grow from a tuber like dahlias. I have stored mine in the greenhouse over winter protected by fleece, just waiting to see if they come back to life.

teapot is right, these are different from ordinary cosmos.

Growing these for the first time this year, so will be interested to hear how you get on. I think it's just a question of keeping your fingers crossed.

Interesting.

I might be lucky and have some shoots.

But I'll definitely lift the plants ( maybe re planted ! ) at the end of the year. Had no idea that applied to Cosmos.

Isn't Spring wonderful.

Where did you get your plug plants from @sunglassesonthetable? I've always fancied growing these.

sunglassesonthetable · 17/03/2023 21:18

I think mine are coming from Thompson &Morgan. Ordered online. I put it into google and quite a few were doing them.

As @GandhiDeclaredWarOnYou said it's much cheaper to grow from seed but I know I won't have the time to get that done right now. Maybe next year.

And they do smell of chocolate. 😁
