Planting bulbs

Hi, just wondering if anyone could give me a little bit of advice please- I've been given some tulip bulbs as a present. I am no gardener, and I have never grown/planted anything and I don't really know what to do with them. (And I would quite like them to live). Am I better planting them in the ground, or should they go in a pot? How deep should I bury them? Do I need to water/feed them or if they're outside will they be OK? Do they need to be directly in the sun, or do they need some shade sometimes too? Thanks 😊

Loads of info here. They probably won’t do much until next spring though, they should be planted in late autumn really. They are fine in pots or the ground so it depends on where you’d like to see them when they bloom.
I moved some tulips after they flowered last spring, I don’t purposely kill anything but I didn’t like where they were and I really wasn’t bothered if they died so I just dug them up and re buried them in a corner. I can see they did survive as the are now pushing through the soil.
