Italian Cypress

I’ve seen some of these in a garden centre today and think they would be perfect for the borders of my small garden. Had a Google and some websites seem to suggest they are ideal for pots or small gardens, and others state they grow absolutely massive!

Does anyone know of there are any varieties that stay quite small and slender? Or any alternatives that grow no higher than around 2m whilst staying slim?

Italian cypress Cupressus sempervirens is native to the Mediterranean and some parts of the Middle East, and they can get to well over 20 metres in height. Although they can be grown in the UK, you don't see all that many of them. I'm not entirely convinced they are fully hardy in our climate which, lets face it, doesn't bear all that much resemblance to where they come from. We are definitely a lot wetter and windier here to what they are used to.

Did you decide to go with the Italian Cypress for your borders? I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I wonder whether keeping them in pots would limit their growth anyway? They do look absolutely stunning
