Cordyline dead?

Hi, what should I do with this? It wasn't protected during this cold snap we are in, it just about was ok during the December one.
The new growth is brown - I think dead. Should I cut it off or just wait til it maybe grows out a bit?
I won't do anything to until it warms up a bit. It's in a relatively sheltered position by the house but I'm in Scotland and it's Baltic!

Cordyline dead?

Two of my neighbours have them in their front gardens and to be honest, your one is looking far better than theirs. I'd sit it out and wait to see what happens.

TheBirdintheCave · 10/03/2023 15:40

That looks very much alive to me compared to my three poor very, very definitely dead cordylines 😅

Saisong · 10/03/2023 15:41

Mine is as dead as a Dodo. Kids gave it to me for Mothers Day about 7 years ago. I guess they can replace it for this year!

userxx · 10/03/2023 15:45

That looks healthy to me. I'd leave it be for now.

Suzi888 · 10/03/2023 15:46

It looks fine to me.

BigBundleOfFluff · 10/03/2023 15:58

Here's hoping it will survive. This was my one and only purchase from Groupon of all places a few years ago.
My hebe's are looking very very sorry for themselves.
Thanks all - I'll hang fire and wait and see.

So many of my plants look completely dead but I'm crossing my fingers that they'll spring back to life.

DH bought one without discussion a few years ago, I hate, loathe and detest and every winter I pray 🙏 for its demise. Every year I am disappointed. 🙏🙏Maybe this will be my year. 😂 😂 🙏

hattie43 · 10/03/2023 17:16

My are definitely dead .

🤣🤣. I hated mine, I took it out of its pot and planted it in the ground praying it wouldn't suit and gently pass on. It grew to over 6ft. It had the last laugh.

TheClash2023 · 10/03/2023 17:21

It looks fine. All my hebes died this year though

longtompot · 10/03/2023 17:30

Yours looks much more alive than mine.

I've had one in a pot in my garden for about 20 years. It's been through all weathers but apparently last Novembers freezing conditions were too much for it and the middle has died 😓 I am going to leave it alone and just removed the leaves as they die and hope for a new shoot👏

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 10/03/2023 18:56

I pulled my ones leaves a tiny bit and the whole thing came off in my hands … so it’s is so much better than mine

Tree543 · 10/03/2023 19:00

Looks ok to me. Mine died this winter all the leaves have now fallen off just the trunk remaining.

GlassBunion · 10/03/2023 19:26

I'd wait a while and next month, I'd cut off any brown leaves at the base of the leaf.

jannier · 10/03/2023 19:40

Don't touch it until all frost has gone then chop it down to where the stem is firm it will reshoot but as a double head.

Throwncrumbs · 10/03/2023 20:09

Think it’s been a bad winter for these, all of mine are dead, just rotten trunks, my neighbour has told me hers is dead, and I’ve looked around in other gardens and seen others that look dead, I’m in the south of England as well!

Ooo a double head! It's already a mother and child.
It's right by my poorly insulated conservatory - every cloud has a silver lining eh?!

Thar is absolutely doing well all considered 🤔

fibeee · 12/03/2023 22:45

I inherited 3 with my house and can confirm they are immortal. 1 was cut down by a tree surgeon 5 years ago and the roots were ground up. The bastard thing is still trying to resurrect itself. Every few months DH digs up big chunks of root and a few months later the leaves are above ground again.

If you have managed to kill yours please pass on your tips!

I was just about to post something similar! I've been trying for 8 YEARS to dig up and kill one but the thing keeps growing back. I keep threatening to have a bonfire on top of it but I'm not convinced that will do it.

mastertomsmum · 12/03/2023 23:42

All of the ones I’ve seen here look much worse. My Dad thinks they will perk up come spring like weather

cleowasmycat · 13/03/2023 00:03

Mine for comparison!

Cordyline dead?
BigBundleOfFluff · 13/03/2023 10:45

@cleowasmycat oh no!! What are you thinking of doing with it?

OP posts:
cleowasmycat · 13/03/2023 10:55

I'm leaving it until warmer then cutting it half way down. Stupid plant, I hate it.
