Would a peony cope with a reasonably sunny border under a tree?

Just wandering what is meant by partial
shade when thinking about peonies.

Most survive perfectly well in full sun based on where I worked last year

I have one in just such a position. It's under an acer that is approximately 7 feet tall and 5 feet wide, well established and gets the sun from 11am to 5/6pm for most of the summer. It flowers just as well and as long as the rest of the peonies in my garden.

mine do fine in that location
