Home made stepping stones - terrible idea??

I want to make my own stepping stones out of concrete, set into some sort of circular mould. This does seem a bit of a great idea in theory, but with the potential to go horribly wrong. Has anyone done this, or something similar? I can't afford to buy them.

Why not? You will find that after a year or so they will gain some texture and dirt and look not much different from stone. You can buy all kinds of shapes for exactly this online.

Saying all this. I bought our stepping stones from a builders yard for about £100 a tonne so it isn't that expensive, just buy ones that can be carried easily. If you are in east Anglia i can recommend somewhere.

Thanks. I'm not sure I can afford the bag of concrete so £100 is not doable.

Maybe try your local Facebook free group or free cycle first? Round here people are always giving away paving slabs etc.
