Agapanthus alternative?

Does anything spring to mind that would be a substitute? I love Agapanthus but mine all have the dreaded gall midge and there is no treatment as yet. I have several spaces in a mixed border to fill and would love to find something of the same colour and size. I have some Tulbaghia but the scent of garlic is not my favourite in the garden.

Not exactly the same style of flower, but similar in colour and size - nepeta.

Flowers slightly later than Agapanthus but how about Echinops?

Thanks for the replies. Love the look of Echinops but the leaves look rather scruffy. I might give that a go and then just hope they come up with a treatment for the gall midge.
