Earliest I can prune?

I usually do a pre winter prune of the majority of my garden. Last year that didn't happen. (DS in hospital/lack of time first winter with 2DC etc etc)

I'm desperate to cut everything back and neaten it all back.

I have lavender, hydrangea, verbena bonearensis to name a few.

Wait until last frost?

Also, side note I know it isn't always recommend to do a pre winter prune on plants... But I've always done this with my lavender and verbena and it's worked well.

No, do it whenever, just not during frost. If you wait till last frost (April/May) you”ll have missed the boat.

I was literally just considering doing this myself as I also missed the pre-winter prune and it’s a bit of a mess out there!

Thanks all I will get on it ! I was conscious of missing the boat as usually I have it done before winter and then by early spring the shoots are visible.

Also, good idea to trim up hedges now if you have lots of birds around, before nesting starts in earnest. Once nesting starts you shouldn't be cutting back hedges etc.
Round here, that would mean no trims till about July by which time I'd be pulling my hair out. Ive tidied things up this week and booked the big machine hedge man for mid July, that should see me through.

Good to know thanks. We don't have hedges in garden (small garden) but do have one by driveway which is always full of little birds so will give it a tidy this week if it doesn't rain.
