My mum was out walking and came across a bush with very pretty pink-ish autumn leaves. No picture of the whole thing as she didn't have her phone on her, but she did take a few leaves home. Can anyone tell me what it is? TIA!

Almost impossible as we need the shrub not just the leaves.

Possibly Euonymus (spindle). Leaf shape, vein pattern, serrated edge all correct, and apparent leaf texture. That lovely pinkish red isn’t very common amongst UK autumn colours, but the deciduous Euonymus certainly have it, Euonymus alata definitely does, it’s widely planted but not native. Not sure whether the native Euonymus europaeus has the colour to the same degree.

Quite a lot of trees and shrubs are showing unusual autumn colouring this year, so very difficult to tell.

Easier to identify if you ignore colour and go by leaf shape and other features.

I’m sceptical that leaves are showing different colours as opposed to more intense versions of their usual colours, eg a tree showing yellow with the merest flushing of red this year being completely red.
