When you do ditch your summer bedding in pots?

Always a dilemma. I want to plant some spring bulbs but as it's quite mild where I live, the summer bedding in pots seems to go on and on. No greenhouse so can't over-winter. It seems such a waste to ditch flowering bedding (petunias and geraniums.) But...?

Get a dibber and poke holes to drop the bulbs in without disturbing summer bedding. In a mild winter if you deadhead carefully it's possible to get flowers to go through to December and even January in a sheltered spot
