Walnut sapling - when to transplant?

Hi all,

We've found, to our surprise, a Persian walnut tree growing in our back garden thanks to our squirrel visitors! It's quite small at the minute and is in a herb bed by the fence where there isn't much sun. We think we should move it to a sunnier spot with more room but didn't know when is best. This autumn or wait until next spring?

I would think you could transplant it now. Whilst the ground is still warm.

Autumn is a good time. Do it soon, while the soil is still warm, and it will be fine. You might be surprise at how deep you have to dig to get it out without damaging the roots too much.
