What plant is this?

Does anyone know what this plant is? It’s in a vegetable plot (we think) in the garden of my friend’s new house. She’s been there since May but they don’t seem to be doing anything!

That looks like a Jerusalem artichoke

If its in a veg plot they could be Jerusalem artichokes, in which case they should be producing flowers soon that look a bit like sunflowers and have knobbly tubers under the ground.
