Loads have popped up in the garden, well over a meter tall seems to be the only thing that can live in this drought...

Anyone know what this is?

It looks like an Allium! I planted some in the garden in our previous house and wish I had some now..

Thanks all. I am the worst gardener, I'm trying to tame an over grown garden, which looked beautiful when we brought the house, but I'm afraid we've not been able to keep on top of it. The old owners would no doubt weep!

Alium. They're great as they provide structure even when they have finished flowering.

An allium, as others have said - they are pretty when in flower and graceful when the seed heads appear - but how to stop the wind flattening them?! Too many to stake each one - and it is very windy here!
