I bought a box of bulbs & seeds (allegedly blue shades but there are pot marigolds in it, which are welcome but decidedly not blue or purple!). The seeds weren't listed & I don't recognise these - any ideas?

More in next post, & two of these are the same in white & blue.

The last one might've had small, pale pink flowers.

Looks like pelargoniums? The purple one bottom left is phacaelia.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/08/2022 17:50

Actually on closer glance not Pelargoniums! (Went and got glasses..).

Ah, thank you! I was just looking at the close-up, thinking the buds looked like borage so that explains it.

Are the blue & white ones echium? That name occurred to me & it looks similar to one photo I've found.

I think the first one is a geranium (as distinct from a pelagonium). But I don't think they are normally sold as seed.
There is an identify site called something like 'picture this'....you take a photo and it tells you what it (might) be. I think you have to pay, but keep asking for a 'free trial' and you'll be OK.

It always helps to see the (correct) leaves as well as the flowers. First pic looks like a Geranium flower, but could be various other things. The closest leaves appear to be Eschscholtzia not Geranium.

2nd and 3rd are I thought white and blue Phacelia, except the stamens aren’t as long as I’d expect. You can recognise from the shape of the flower spike that they’re forget-me-not family.

4th is Phacelia. 5th are the leaves of Melilot.

I think the first one is a geranium (as distinct from a pelagonium). But I don't think they are normally sold as seed. If a Geranium, most likely the white form of Herb Robert. Even if something isn’t normally sown as seed, it could still be included in a mix.

Yep, I think you’re right. Flower structure is correct - look at the central bits. You’ve no idea how hard it was to find a picture ofa Gypsophila that wasn’t double!
