Weeds ... help

Hello

Very inexperienced gardener here. Our lawn is riddled with weeds, mainly dandelions.

We've been pulling some out but a week later and some have come back on the same patch.

I've been looking at weed killer but we have a cat and a toddler so we don't think they are safe.

Is there any way to get rid of the weeds? We have a 100ft garden so it's a never ending task pulling them all out.

Thanks

Dandelions have a huge tap root which you need to get completely out or they will just grow straight back. Does it matter if there are some weeds in the lawn? It's much better for wildlife.

Thank you, I suppose it doesn't matter but it's pretty much all weed and no lawn.

You need to dig them out. They have long tap roots.
There are natural weedkillers that you can use, the RHS website is useful. www.rhs.org.uk/advice/pdfs/weedkiller-for-home-gardeners.pdf

I like dandelions so left them alone in my new garden, two years later they had taken over so I started getting them out. I had a brilliant tool from the garden centre, sort of like a long thin spike with a forked end. You push it right in and it hoiks them up far down, it is surprisingly satisfying to use ! Anyway regularly doing this when I was out in the garden, not loads in one go, did hugely reduce the number of them. I still have them as I like some here and there, but not too many. I will see if I can find the tool online.

I think you have to pick your battles. If you have other stuff going on on the garden a weedy lawn is less noticeable. Decide if you want a perfect lawn or if you want to naturalise it a bit.
