Need a better look at the leaves, but if I were a betting woman I'd say hornbeam. Can you see any seeds, they're quite different, winged T-shape in hornbeam and triangular nuts in a bristly case in beech.

I'd say Hornbeam too based on the leaf veins, beech leaves are smooth.

I have a hornbeam in my garden, I'll look at it when I get home.

Beech leaves are shinier and don't have so much of that corrugated look.
