Hi all, could you please help me identify this plant. I bought it about 3 years ago from the pound shop for 75p and it was basically just a twig, but this year it's thriving. I can't remember what it is and hoped somebody here would know.
Thank you

Hmmm could be a privet, Escallonia, osmanthus burkwoodii or a cotoneaster.

Hard to tell in that image.

Are the leaves opposite or alternate?

stayathomegardener · 10/07/2022 18:57

No flowers at all?

chinupoldchap · 10/07/2022 18:57

This is a picture of the leaves

Looks like it could be a willow.

Yes, willow. Difficult genus to identify, so I would let it grow and see whether I liked it.

Goat willow is the common one

Are you sure it’s what you bought and not something that self seeded there? I have one of these that self seeded, it’s a form of willow but impossible to identify.

And the male goat willow is “pussy willow”

DH is a gardener and says it's a goat willow. So basically a weed. Advises removing it.

Definitely bought it.
So I agree it looks like a willow. Is there a reason to pull it up? It's in a very shady spot that not much else grows and it hide the back of the shed so unless it's really bad could I leave it there?

It’s not bad at all. Grows quite fast, so you may need to cut it back to keep it in the allotted space.

If it is a goat willow and is a male not a female you will have pussy willows in the spring.

Salix is a difficult group with many species. Probably is a goat willow but you wouldn’t try to id from a photo.

Brilliant, thank you all!
