Best lawn weed killer recommendations?

Hi all, we sowed (is that correct?😆) a new lawn and now have a HUGE crop of thistles across the middle (the lawn is about an acre) - any recommendations for which selective product we should use to deal with them whilst not killing off the grass that has actually grown? Thanks in advance!!

please don’t use weed killer on it. It’s so bad for the environment, plus weeds are just plants in the wrong place, so I’m not sure you’ll get some specific to plant type.
your best bet is to dig it up and reseed or turf it (I’d turf to ensure the grass establishes over the seeds)

or embrace it and the wildlife that will thrive on it? Maybe chucking in a few wildflower plugs for fun?!

Oh @EvilPea , I totally understand what you’re saying - I have a small holding (produce not animals) - over 200 fruit trees too and I never use anything on it. But this time it’s beyond me - it would take 8 hours a day for the next few weeks and I simply do not have the time. This is the one moment I’m having to give in😔

And I’ve already dug it up once and re-seeded - I cannot afford to hire a digger and take more days off again!!

no Idea if this would work on thistles, but I can’t see why not. I’ve done this and its worked on everything but brambles.

smother it, cut it right back, couple of layers of cardboard, dampen it. Put a couple of inches of top soil or manure over the top.
It’s worked loads for me and flower beds so I can’t see why it wouldn’t work there.

the idea is you leave it untouched and undisturbed for a good few months and the lack of light kills what’s underneath.
im wondering if you could just turf over the top of the manure / soil / compost so you out compete the thistles.

but you won’t have the beautiful flat lawn your probably after.

Mow them and mow them. I normally individually spray dandelions early in the year on our huge lawn but didn't get it done this year however DH has a fancy sit on mower and cuts it at least once a week - dandelions are struggling to survive.
If you can keep the mower handy and keep going over the thistle area they should die back.

Hi blinking, I've selectively killed brambles growing in grass using SBK. It didn't kill the grass.
