Door pots

I'm looking for recommendations for permanent, evergreen, low maintenance, smallish (30cmx30cm max ish) plant in containers for either side of the front door. Oh and cheap as possible.
I don't want to do seasonal pots because then you always have times when the containers look less good or even empty waiting to be re-done.
I hate conifers.

Sun level?

Bay. Bombproof, just need cutting back every year or so.

Yew is "posher" than conifers and can be kept very small by regular clipping. You could even try a bit of topiary if you fancied it.

Sunny from dawn till about 12 in the summer.
Isn't bay pricey?
Will check out yew.

Yew will prefer those sun/shade levels, I think.

Some hebes will be fine in that sun level as an alternative?

Also, new zealand myrtles? Slow growing so ideal for pots.

Bay
Sarcococca (smells lovely)
Daphne (smells lovely look for shade tolerant)
Viburnum tinus
Pittosporum (one of the compact varieties)
Camellia (flowering, but probably needs more regular cutting back than the others)
