Cystus with dried up buds

I have a beautiful deep pink cystus in a large bottomless raised bed. It has healthy foliage, but a lot of the many buds are dried up before they can flower. I have tried giving extra water, but so far to no avail. All the other plants in the bed are thriving. Any suggestions?

It won't need extra water, I don't think. Rock roses much prefer a low moisture soil.

Their 'fruits' can look a lot like dried buds. Sorry to sound daft but are you sure the dry buds are not flowers that have been pollinated quickly?

I bought one last year and it started to flower - masses of buds - then seemed to give up. I’m guessing due to the weather conditions over winter/in the lead up. Maybe next year will be better.

I spent a long time examining the buds to decide whether they might be seed pods - I am still not entirely sure - but they certainly look like buds that have gone dry and shrivelled. Whatever they are, I have chopped them off!
