Deadheading geum

I think it’s ‘totally tangerine’ and several years old and this year has produced and incredible flush of flowers. However it’s now flopping over and crushing my penstemon and majority finished. I’ve put a spare plant support under it to stop it damaging other things but it looks quite crap.

should I deadhead/cut flowering stems back now? I can’t just cut individual flowers, there are many many many to do and it would leave a lot of sticky up bare stems.

might I get a second flush if I cut the flower stalks back to the plant?

I'm following this with interest as my red geum(not sure of the variety) has flowered profusely but I'm wondering if it will come again if I chop it

I’ve just cut back my Geum “Mrs Bradshaw” but most flowers had finished. They should flower again if you cut back now.

Thanks. That’s tonight’s light evening sorted out then! Snippers at the ready!

Also following with interest. How much should a geum be chopped back @NanTheWiser please

I just cut the flower stems as low as possible, leaving the leaves as they are.

I cut mine right back to a neat mound of leaves and usually get a second load of flowers - which aren't as floppy. And if not - the plant looks neater and leaves space for other things. Love totally tangerine - looks fab with purple alliums.
