I should probably get myself an app..which is the best free one? In the meantime, can anyone please tell me what this shrub is?
This was taken last August.

Hebe possibly?

quickscribble · 21/06/2022 04:06

Thank you for replying. No not Hebe although I thought you might have been right initially.

I've just done some googling and it's a Clethra alnifolia 'Ruby spice'. Never heard of it! Sadly it was cut down, along with masses of brambles and other scrubby stuff but had obviously been there for years so I want to replace it with another one.

You spotted something that I didn’t- that picture is on its side, isn’t it. Agree that it looks like a Spirea.

quickscribble · 22/06/2022 16:19

No the pic isn't on its side, and it isn't a spirea - see my post above. Thank you anyway

I would say it is a member of the Rosaceae, looks like a pink crataegus or hawthorn to me

Knittedfairies · 22/06/2022 16:33

I would have said spirea too; I've never heard of a clethra either

FlorianImogen · 22/06/2022 16:38

You need Snapseed

FlorianImogen · 22/06/2022 16:41

Sorry wrong app, you need the app Seek

quickscribble · 22/06/2022 20:35

It doesn't look anything like pink hawthorn! Where are all the clever plantsmiths?!Anyway, I don't need them because I am 100 percent sure it is Clethra alnifolia 'Ruby spice'. (Even if you've never heard of it! 😉)

No, I just need to do more Googling before asking on here next time 😜

This was taken last August.

But you did ask what free app?

Yes, sorry, I’d forgotten. “Alnifolia” means “leaves like an Alder, Alnus” and that looks plausible too.

If you are on an iPhone, tap your photo and click on the ‘I’ in a circle. It gives you a ‘look up plant’ option.
