How to rescue this geranium (or is it pelargonium)?

I inherited this geranium and I can't remember if I've caused its current state or if it was already like this, but it's looking dreadful. There is a single stalk that looks dry and barely hanging on, but from that stalk there are many sub-stalks and it's growing and flowering well. How can I tidy it up? Or get it to grow more evenly?

Any advice gratefully received!

It's a pelargonium. The top bit looks healthy, so it's probably worth taking cuttings and discarding the the rest. Cuttings root really easily. Literally, pop them in water and they'll root. Then once you've got a good root system, pot them up. And you'll have numerous nice, healthy plants

One more thing, looking at it I wondered if it's it a trailing variety?

Thank you! I did take cuttings about a month ago but I don't see roots yet. They're in water. Have I done it wrong?

Looks like a trailing geranium to me - for hanging baskets. I agree with the advice to take cuttings to get more plants. It would look much better with lots in the pot so it looks fuller.

I think these are tender though so you may want to bring it inside for winter or just put the pot/basket next to a house wall to protect it from the cold. My mother would take cuttings every winter and keep them on windowsills for the next summer.

I’m surprised your cuttings haven’t rooted, try again now it’s warmer
